Luz Totanez Nunez

Born in Gubat, Sorsogon, former cover girl of Asian Magazine—Luz Totanez Nunez represents a perfect example of a woman of the 90's. A successful business woman, active community leader and a beauty title holder, Luz received her Bachelor degree in Business and then went on to raise four children: Marie Antoinette, Jean-Pierre, Francis Henry and Giovanni Matthew. Her husband, Edward is Director of Respiratory Therapy at a Veterans Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Luz resumed her busy career in the 80s and to many Chicagoans, she is remembered for winning the 1990-91 "Mrs. Philippines" title. Luz enjoys serving her community, and she is often selected to chair projects requiring her special expertise. She is the Past President of Chicago Philippine Lioness Club, Past President of Sorsogon Association of Chicago and the Midwest, Lady Dean of Mr. and Miss Young Philippines, Past Chairperson of Chicago's Prettiest Filipinas and served as a Judge for the 1991 Miss Philippines-America held in Virginia Beach. Today Luz beams with pride, with a very varied and busy life she enjoys her time with her two lovely granddaughters, Catarina Therese, who is three years old and her sister Sofia Caitleen Calicdan, who is 17 months old.

Meet our lovely Mrs. Balik Bicol (Local) Candidates!

Joyce Anderson

Joyce Fresnoza Anderson

There is a French saying that says, "The success of a nation depends on the quality of its women."

I am a woman with a burning mission. I am committed to help set the standard in the upbringing of children and in raising the dignity of Filipino women in the way they behave in society as perceived by the whole world.

I joined the Balik Sorsogon / Balik Bicol project because I believe that the building of a Museum will enrich the  minds and enhance the culture of our fellow Sorsoganons. A museum these days is perceived as having an important cultural function. A museum, according to Dr. Robert Anderson, Director of  the  British Museum, is not static. It’s function is varied and vibrant. I see that it is in line with the education of our people.

Likewise, I believe in the thrusts of this program which is tourism-related. Here in Sorsogon, we can set a standard on how we should receive and treat our tourists.

I hope that Sorsogon City will make an impact in our country.

Cherry Duana

Arceli "Cherry" Duana

CHERRY, as friends fondly call her, is a person you would really feel glad to meet, not only because of her good looks but also because of her warm and sincere character. Indeed, Cherry is a beauty inside and out—a beautiful personality.

Having won the title "Mrs. Balikatan 2000" and as first runner-up in "Ms. Irosin", she takes pride in having helped so many fellow Sorsoganons in her own small ways. She actively participates in many civic activities across the province.

With her mind and heart for Sorsoganons, Cherry was inspired to join this year's Mrs. Balik Bicol Pageant. As a loving mother to Aj (age 25), Geo (24), Jomil (21), Wika (19), and Myla (11), Cherry is convinced that Sorsogon's rich history needs to be preserved for future generations. Believing in its vision and mission of building the Sorsogon Provincial Museum and Heritage Center, she hopes to be instrumental in the attainment of the said mission. Her experiences as a realtor (together with her dynamic husband Wilfredo "Buboy" Duana), and as a travel consultant helped develop her interpersonal as well as intrapersonal skills in her personal and social relationships.

Driven with a passion to help, Cherry hopes to use her God-given talents to reach out to generous people and philanthropists, who will share their blessing for this noble cause. May we all join in her appeal for all of us to SHARE AND HELP THE SORSOGANONS! And the best time is NOW!
